Upgrading St. Maarten Archaeological Center (SIMARC) & St. Maarten National Heritage Foundation Facilities

St. Maarten's archaeological and heritage collections play an important role in preserving, researching and sharing St. Maarten's history. Current limitations in storage, preservation conditions and available space affect how these collections can be protected, managed, and made accessible to the public.

This project will invest in the facilities, systems and capacity needed to better preserve and provide access to St. Maarten's tangible heritage. The work will include upgrades and retrofits at the St. Maarten Archaeological Center (SIMARC) and the St. Maarten National Heritage Foundation facilities, improved storage and preservation conditions, training and capacity development, digital access, and educational programming.

Objectives

  • Improve how historical artefacts and collections are stored, managed, and protected.
  • Strengthen national capacity for heritage preservation, research and collection management.
  • Expand educational and cultural programming connected to St. Maarten's heritage.
  • Increase digital access to collections and historical information.
  • Improve public access to and engagement with St. Maarten's tangible heritage.
  • Support the long-term preservation and accessibility of St. Maarten's national heritage collections.
