Upgrading the John Larmonie Center

Over the years, several plans and initiatives have been developed to expand and modernize the John Larmonie Center. As the needs of St. Maarten's arts and cultural sector have evolved, earlier designs no longer fully reflect the requirements for a modern, fit-for-purpose facility that can support artist development, technical training, and regular performing arts programming.

The project will support phased improvements to the John Larmonie Center, based on updated plans that respond to current cultural and operational needs, and support its use as a dedicated space for artistic training, performances, and cultural development. The vision includes improved facilities, technical equipment, and a small theatre that can support both performers and careers behind the scenes, including lighting, sound and set design.

Objectives

  • Complete the planned improvement to the John Larmonie Center.
  • Create a modern hub for artistic training and cultural activities.
  • Develop a dedicated theatre space for performances and training.
  • Support careers in both performing and technical arts.
  • Expand opportunities for young people, artists, and cultural organizations.
