Heritage Scholarship Program

St. Maarten has a shortage of professionals trained in areas such as archaeology, archival management, museum studies, heritage conservation, and cultural management. This limits the ability of local institutions to research, preserve, and manage the country's heritage without depending heavily on outside expertise.

The Heritage Scholarship Program will support St. Maarteners who want to study or train in heritage-related fields. Scholarships, academic partnerships, and professional guidance will help build a new generation of local heritage professionals. Scholarship recipients will be expected to return and contribute their knowledge to St. Maarten's heritage sector.

Objectives

  • Encourage St. Maarteners to pursue careers in heritage-related fields.
  • Build local expertise in areas where St. Maarten currently has skills gaps.
  • Create a direct link between education and future employment in the heritage sector.
  • Reduce long-term dependence on external expertise.
  • Strengthen national heritage capacity through locally developed professionals.
